Time for a festive (almost) track of the week. We love Luke Sital-Singh and his beautiful vocals, and he's recently shared a new track with the premise that having patience is that bit harder "when you're freezing your bits off" (his words!) A stunning track! If you're lucky enough to be heading to Luke's headline show at St Pancras Old Church in London this evening - have fun!

Gig of the week: Rae Morris at The Jazz Cafe (11th Dec)
It's been a pretty good year for Rae Morris. She released the incredible Someone Out There which has been received really well by fans and critics alike, has toured the record around the UK, supported the mighty Jungle on tour and released a beautiful duet with Tom Odell recently, alongside a whole host of other events and achievements. She's finishing off the year with what is set to be a really beautiful show, Choose Love at The Jazz Cafe, for Help Refugees. A Rae Morris gig, she'll be joined by a whole host of friends, including Fryars, Tom Odell, Billie Marten and Jack Steadman (of Mr Jukes and Bombay Bicycle Club fame.) What - a - line - up!
Have a listen to one of our favourite tunes from Rae's record below, and snap up tickets for the show, which takes place tomorrow evening and is our gig of the week top tip, here.

With support from I See Rivers and performing tracks from his wonderful debut album The Much Much How How & I it's sure to be a wonderful evening of live music. Track of the week: Harvey Causon - 'London Stock'
A quick read of his bio, and you'll learn that Bristol's Harvey Causon is "turning heads with his deft take on contemporary R&B, percussive electronica and powerful, brooding vocal that sounds far more world wearied than his 20 years." We've been really enjoying the beautifully soothing tunes he's put out this year, and his new track London Stock is no exception - so we're making it our track of the week!
Monday, 19 November 2018
Gig of the week: Jade Bird at Electric Brixton (21st Nov)

Gig of the week: Christof van der Ven at Sebright Arms (6th Nov)
We loved catching Christof van der Ven opening for friend of Tigmus Adam Barnes back at the start of the year at his show at London's St Pancras Old Church. Check out the album's title track Empty Handed below and grab tickets for the show here!

Always fans of experimenting with new sounds, the group, which focuses around brother and sister duo Robin and Cat, have allowed the flute to take centre stage on this release. It's a slow-burning, dreamy track, and the harmonies of the duo are as beautiful as ever. You can download the release through their Bandcamp here - keep an eye out there for new Catgod t-shirts too!

Track of the week: Low Island - 'Hot Air'
Our friends Low Island recently shared their first full length release. It's not an EP, but not quite an album, more a collection of tracks (an anthology of sorts) from the past couple of years of the band. It's a glorious selection of tracks, with lots of our favourites, and features brand new tune Hot Air which we're making our track of the week! Honestly - if we could make the whole of Low Island 17-18 our track of the week, we would... check it out on Spotify here!

Track of the week: Richard Walters - 'Porcelain'
It's that time again... our track of the week this week comes from Oxford's own Richard Walters with a cover of Moby classic Porcelain. Richard's beautifully soothing voice is perfect for the season and we've long been fans of his music, and he's made the track his own in this cover. If you like what you're hearing, check out Richard's A.M. record from 2016, it's a stunner!

Gig of the week: Fil Bo Riva at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen (3rd Oct)
At Tigmus we're a big fan of Fil Bo Riva. We caught him playing a set in the basement of a hotel on the Brighton seafront at last year's The Great Escape festival, and completely fell in love with his music. His unique tone and honest lyrics combine to create a really beautiful set of songs, notably those from the If You're Right, It's Alright EP from 2016. In the run up to the release of his debut record which he's been working on for the last couple of years, FBR has released a number of singles this year, including Time Is Your Gun which you can listen to below. He's on a European tour and plays his only UK headline show at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen this Wednesday (3rd). He's currently on a solo tour, playing tracks from both records up and down the country, and our gig(s) of the week are his shows in London, at EartH Hackney. He's playing the venue on 26th and 27th - we massively recommend getting along to see Nick play live! Track of the week: Billie Marten - 'Mice'
It's time for our track of the week! This week, we're going for something a bit quieter than normal, and shouting out Mice, the new track from Yorkshire's Billie Marten. She's been away for a little while, and made a return with this beautiful track last week. Her music has been compared to the likes of Lucy Rose and Laura Marling, so you know you're in pretty safe hands with this tune. Stay tuned for more of the same very soon, we hope!

Gig of the week: Low Island at O2 Academy Oxford (21st Sep)
If you're in Oxford, you really should get yourselves along to this show on Friday evening. Our pals Low Island are releasing Low Island 17-18, a physical collection of tracks from their three brilliant EPs from the last couple of years. They're launching the EP with a hometown show and one of their biggest shows yet upstairs at the O2 Academy in Oxford. With support from locals Theo and BE GOOD it's a complete certainty to be one of the best gigs of the year in Oxford, we'd say. Three wonderful live acts! You can grab discounted vinyl and ticket bundles through their site here.

Track of the week: Willie J Healey - '666 Kill'
It's been just over a year since Oxford's own Willie J Healey released his incredible (and incredibly titled) debut People and Their Dogs into the world. We love us some WJH here at Tigmus - so, we're pretty excited that he's back with brand new tunes! Premiered on Steve Lamacq's BBC 6 Music show last week, he's back with 666 Kill, the title track of a brand new EP being released through the lovely folks at Yala Records (the team behind the The Magic Gang album earlier in the year, one of our favourite albums this year!) He's releasing his debut album Amir on 19th October, and is playing a show at The Courtyard Theatre in London, playing tracks from the record (including the beautiful tunes from the Habibi EP which was released earlier this year and we adore!) He'll be supported by Imogen who played a fantastic set supporting Sivu earlier this year - it's sure to be a great night! Grab tickets for the show and find out more here.

Track of the week: Fyfe - 'Be There'
Very few words needed for this one... new Fyfe tune Be There is our track of the week and we're loving it! Sharing the track online, the singer told fans that "It's been just over a year since 'The Space Between' came out and I wanted to say thank you for all your love towards the record! ... So I'm putting out a new track called 'Be There' to show my gratitude." If only all thank yous could come in the shape of a wonderful song...

Track of the week: Sivu - 'Trickle'
It's always a treat when Sivu shares new music, and his new tune Trickle is no exception. The track was written and recorded while he worked on his second record Sweet Sweet Silent with producer Charlie Andrew, and it didn't get chosen for the record, but as a stand alone single it is completely sublime. The track is about "feeling awkward in your own skin and realising not everything is within your control." We completely adore Sivu's music at Tigmus - get listening and check out his two records if you haven't yet!

Londoner Jade Bird is following up her 2017 EP Something American with a string of singles, the latest of which, Uh Huh, is a complete tune. The power in her voice is blowing our minds a little. We're loving this live version for Vevo DSCVR!

Gig of the week: The Hungry Mothers at Komedia, Brighton (9th Aug)
For this week's gig of the week (a Brighton show!) we were first drawn to the show thanks to the wonderful support acts (MarthaGunn and Josh McGovern) - they're playing alongside Brighton's own The Hungry Mothers at Komedia this Thursday. They're new to us, but forgive our foolishness for being late to the party with THM... we're listening to their new single Easy at the moment and loving it! The stripped back tune Green Roses is also a beauty. With some beautiful vocals and lovely laid back Americana vibes, they're sure to put on a brilliant show, opened up in style by Josh and our friends in MarthaGunn, who played a set at WOMAD Festival for us recently!

WOMAD Special - Eight questions with Seramic
Not long to go until this year's WOMAD Festival! We're excited to announce that the third of the artists we've handpicked for the line-up are Tigmus favourites Low Island, who'll be joining MarthaGunn and Seramic to bring a whole lot of joy to the line-up. All three have delivered some of the best live sets we've seen over the past few years so if you're heading to the festival you are in for a huge treat - watch out for scheduling information to find out which days and stages each of our artists are playing on!
After catching his incredible set at this year's Bushstock Festival a couple of weeks ago, we caught up with Marcus Foster, AKA Seramic - get reading our interview below! Grab tickets for WOMAD here and check out the full line-up here.
1. We can’t wait to have you playing for us at WOMAD! Introductions first - who is Seramic?
After catching his incredible set at this year's Bushstock Festival a couple of weeks ago, we caught up with Marcus Foster, AKA Seramic - get reading our interview below! Grab tickets for WOMAD here and check out the full line-up here.
(c) Jamie Strachan |
Seramic is me, it’s also a very collaborative project so I have my live band who I love playing with and there are two producers who I work with who contribute to the sound massively too.
2. How would you describe your sound to someone who hasn’t listened yet? We’d say that they’re in for quite the treat and to head straight for the I Got You EP.
My music draws from lots of different influences, I guess to simplify it’s kind of a combination of soul/r&b/gospel, it’s a fun show to see.
3. Which artists, past and present, influence that unique Seramic sound?
I am very influenced by Prince and Sly and the Family Stone but I love people like Kendrick Lamar, Anderson Paak and Outkast.
4. Who else is in your headphones at the minute?
I like the Kanye produced record by Teyana Taylor and the Daniel Caesar record a lot.
5. You’ve been away from the live spotlight for a few months - what’s been happening in the world of Seramic, and when do we get to hear some new music?
We have our new single Strange Magic out right now so check it out, I also made a video for it. I have been working on lots of music, we will be releasing loads of singles this year which is exciting.
6. Will you be bringing new tracks to WOMAD? What else can we expect from the show?
We will be playing some new songs, we are actually going to do something really stripped down for that show so it should be quite special and different.
7. The few Seramic sets I’ve caught over the last couple of years have been some of the best live music performances I’ve been lucky enough to witness. The full band shows are infectiously energetic and it’s clear that you’re completely at home on the stage. In particular, a stripped back secret set in a tiny wine bar at Bushstock Festival last year was my festival highlight and a total joy to watch. How do you feel about getting back to performing live?
I love performing live more than anything, it’s where I feel totally at home so I’m just really excited to be doing that as much as possible when I get the chance.
8. Finally, the line-up (http://womad.co.uk/line-up/) for WOMAD is looking pretty strong already! Who else should people be catching? For us, Django Django, Too Many Zooz and your Communion Records pals MarthaGunn are a must!
I’m looking forward to seeing as much as I can!! People should check it all out!!

Track of the week: Catgod - 'Let Go'
Friends of Tigmus, Catgod, shared their latest EP online last week. Heartbeat in My Hand is a sublime collection of tracks - they're a band who aren't shy of experimenting with new sounds in order to find where they want to place themselves musically. For us, Let Go is a bit of a stunner and we're making it out track of the week, but please do take a listen to the full EP here on Soundcloud and Spotify!

Track of the week: Boy Azooga - 'Jerry'
Music and dogs is always a pretty winning combination for us at Tigmus, and our track of the week feature today is for Jerry from the debut Boy Azooga record 1, 2, Kung Fu! We're really digging the record (listen to it on Spotify here), and the video for this track features a visit to Cardiff Dog's Home, so it's certainly worth a watch. If you like what you're hearing the band are playing at London's Scala on the 17th October (tickets for that here) and are also on the line-up for Oxford's Cowley Road festival Ritual Union.

Track of the week: Tempesst - 'A Little Bit Of Trouble'
With Tempesst returning last week with their first new tune in a while, there's little doubt over who could take our track of the week accolade today! A Little Bit Of Trouble is the band's first release since their Adult Wonderland EP of 2017 and we're digging it - always up for these chaps bringing the Summer vibes. If you dig the tune in equal measure, why not get along to their show at Lion Coffee & Records on 2nd August - tickets are free through Dice here.

Track of the week: Little Red - 'Siren Song'
We were really chuffed to work with Oxford's Little Red recently on the album launch show for new record Draw Blood. It's been out in the world for almost a month now, and this week's track of the week comes in the shape of one of it's first singles to be released - Siren Song. The live performance of this tune with all of its harmonies and layers in tow is something to behold - get along to see these guys live! Listen to the full record and buy your copy on Bandcamp here.

Track of the week: Ben Howard - 'Nica Libres At Dusk'
Our track of the week today comes in the shape of the lead single from Ben Howard's brand new record, Noonday Dream, released last week. The first sign of a slight change in direction, Nica Libres At Dusk was premiered on the radio a few weeks back, a full 6 minutes 34 seconds of folk goodness, which opens up the record beautifully, setting the scene for what is a stunning record. Check the full album out here - can't wait to catch Ben playing tracks from the record next week in London!

Eight questions with The Dollymops
Oxford! We're happy to be working with The Dollymops on their upcoming hometown EP launch show at The Jericho Tavern on 7th June. The EP Fields Of Wheat is due for release on the 8th June, and they'll also be taking the show along to Banbury and Bicester. Grab your tickets for the Oxford date here, and check out our interview with the band below!
(c) Helen Messenger |
1. First up, who are The Dollymops? How long have you been making music together?!
The Dollymops are an Oxford four piece and we've been together since around the turn of the year.
2. Where does the name for the band come from?
The band name comes from a Victorian name for a prostitute, with 'dolly' being slang for a bloke's member at the time apparently. People often think we're a local cleaning firm though. We're neither male prostitutes nor cleaners, although they're both probably more lucrative career options than the band.
3. Who are the band’s biggest musical influences and all time favourite artists?
I think our biggest musical influences are old punk records by the likes of The Clash, Pistols and Buzzcocks, classics like The Kinks and The Beatles, and a bit of noughties indie for good measure.
4. Your new EP ‘Fields Of Wheat’ is due for release on the 8th June - what can you tell us about the writing and recording process?
The songs were mostly written as a cheap alternative to going to the pub on weeknights. They're very much inspired by everyday life and personal experiences, without wanting to get too bogged down with suburban, kitchen sink dreariness. We recorded the EP at some old apple barn in the middle of nowhere which has been turned into a studio. I thought it would be pretty tedious but it was actually a lot of fun!
5. You’re launching the EP at The Jericho Tavern for us on 7th June with support from Fracture and Persephone. What can we expect from the show?
You can expect a crazy night. With a line up we curated and at our favourite Oxford venue, simply historic. We shall be playing tracks from our debut EP, new ones and maybe even a special cover. Friends and family will be coming from far and wide and hopefully they'll be enough space for everyone else to squeeze in we have met on our travels thus far. We're so proud of our EP and this will be a special show, what with it not going live and launching until midnight every ticket holder will receive a limited-edition cd version. Hand signed, and surely a collector’s item in years to come!
6. Describe your dream gig to us! Are there any venues that you’re desperate to play in Oxford or further afield? Any artists you’d love to collaborate with on a performance?
We'd love to do some of the festivals that we grew up going to as punters like Glastonbury and Isle of Wight, and I like the idea of doing gigs in obscure settings; bakeries, catteries and what not.
7. What do you have lined up as a band for the rest of 2018?
We've got quite a few gigs coming up over the next few months. We're also planning on recording another EP in august, and one more perhaps towards the end of the year if the songs haven't dried up by then.
8. Last up - who are in your headphones at the moment? Any local Oxfordshire bands we should be listening to?
Self Help, Lucy Leave and Easter Island Statues were all incredible at Common People Oxford recently and we are very excited to be playing alongside them all on the Banbury leg of the EP tour, a line up we curated. Oxford's music scene is stronger than it has ever been with professional promoters, fresh labels and beautiful venues. It's an honour to cut our teeth in our home city. When we gig in London we really do miss the familiarity!

Track of the week: Premium Leisure - 'Water Pistol'
We're a little late to the party with this one, but as supergroups go, Oxford's Premium Leisure is up there. The brainchild of Chris Barker, he's joined for live shows by the likes of Willie J Healey and BE GOOD frontman Ash Cooke and the shows look wonderful. It's still a relatively new project, but they're releasing an EP through local tape label Beanie Tapes soon - and this is one of the tunes from it, Water Pistol. Really digging this one!

Gig of the week: Francobollo at Omeara (29th May)
Lots of great gigs this week - our top tip for the week has to be the Francobollo show at one of our favourite London venues, Omeara, with support from Benin City and Wyldest. They're signed to the same record label as Tigmus fave Sivu (Square Leg Records) and their recent single Hoo Ha is all kinds of brilliant. Take a listen below and grab tickets for the show here!

Track of the week: Little Brother Eli - 'Our Kind Of Love'
Tigmus faves Little Brother Eli shared their latest single Our Kind Of Love last week and played a few shows to celebrate - including headlining a stage at the Alt Escape in Brighton which they totally smashed. We're digging the new tune, so it's earned a mention as our track of the week! Get listening and if you like what you're hearing, check out more of the band's tunes over on Spotify.

WOMAD Special - Eight questions with MarthaGunn
As we posted on our socials last week, we're really excited to be working with our friends at WOMAD Festival this year, adding three of our favourite bands to the line-up. We'll have more details soon about the stage and timings, but the bands will each be playing in a "Tigmus hour" slot across the three days. The latest line-up announcement included MarthaGunn and Seramic, who we're really chuffed to have booked for the festival! We're big fans of both bands, having seen them at various shows over the last couple of years, and we've got one more artist to announce soon too who we all adore!
We caught up with Abi from MarthaGunn - get reading our interview below! Grab tickets for WOMAD here and check out the latest line-up announcement here.
1. Hello! We’re so glad to have you guys playing for us at WOMAD - we’ve all loved you since catching your set for Communion’s showcase at The Great Escape last year. First things first - who are MarthaGunn and how did you all meet?

1. Hello! We’re so glad to have you guys playing for us at WOMAD - we’ve all loved you since catching your set for Communion’s showcase at The Great Escape last year. First things first - who are MarthaGunn and how did you all meet?
Hi! We are really looking forward to playing WOMAD. We are a 5 piece rock band who first met in Brighton some years ago. Frankie plays drums, Ally on bass, Humphrey and Max play guitars and I (Abi) sing and play keys.
We met just before we started studying in Brighton. Max was living with a close friend of mine who introduced us and we met Humphrey and Ally a few weeks later, all itching to be in a band. Frankie joined the band in 2015 after we saw him play a gig and decided he was the drummer for us. We mark the moment Frankie joined as the real beginning of our journey.

2. We know a little of the story but for those who don’t - tell us where the name of the band comes from! Was it important for you to keep a connection to Brighton through the name?
MarthaGunn was an 18th century spiritual healer from Brighton who is also an ancestor of mine. Brighton is a big part of who we are and our history, the connection was never intentional but a welcome nod to our beginnings.
3. Your sound bridges a gap between the contemporary and some of our best loved bands from the 70s (you’ve earned a lot of comparisons to the likes of Fleetwood Mac) - how would you describe your sound, and who are the biggest musical influences on the band, old and new?
We all love the 70s, especially the songwriting. We draw from many places as individuals, our tastes are quite eclectic between us and our sound is born out of that. Some of our biggest influences are David Bowie, Arcade Fire, Tame Impala, Mystery Jets and Kate Bush.
4. With two pretty successful singles under your belts and a string of shows supporting the likes of Bear’s Den, Mumford& Sons, James Bay and AnnenMayKantereit in the UK and further afield you could say it’s been a pretty positive start for the band. What have your highlights been?
We've had a pretty exciting year, the live side has been a great ride. I'd have to say the highlight has been exploring more of Europe in our van 'Dorothy'. It's a dream for us. It is such a wonderful adventure to explore news places with your best friends through playing music.
5. You appear to have been busy writing and recording for a few months now… how is it all going? When do we get to hear the fruits of your labour?
The last 6 months have been very much geared towards writing. We have been hidden away in Wales and various other places exploring who we are as a band. It's been a very productive and revealing experience. We can't say for sure when we will next release music but certainly before the end of the year.
6. I imagine a MarthaGunn recording session is a pretty fun environment to be in but it’s also clear that you all really enjoy playing live, so it’s great that you’re coming back to the stage for WOMAD in July. What can we expect from the set?
We like to think of ourselves as a live band first and as writing has been the main focus recently, we are itching to play! Expect high energy and lots of new songs.
7. The WOMAD line-up (http://womad.co.uk/line-up/) is looking (and sounding) great already - we’re chuffed to have added you and Seramic. Who else do you think that people should be catching over the weekend?
WOMAD has such a diverse line up, we are most looking forward to finding something entirely new to us. Definitely going to catch Mr. Jukes!
8. Beyond the festival - who else is piquing your interest musically at the moment?
This is a wide question, I'll keep it brief. Jon Hopkins just released a phenomenal new album. There is a disco/pop band called Parcels from Australia via Berlin whom we all adore. Recently Bowie has been in heavy circulation in our van.
